As I Lay Dying

As I Lay Dying are currently writing their fifth album and are preparing to enter the studio this April. The producer, title, art and all other details will be released over the next few months. Fans can expect to hear new material this summer as the band performs as part of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. Dates and tickets can be found over on rockstarmayhemfest.com.

As I Lay Dying will be headlining the HM Stage at this years Sonshine Festival in Willmar MN on July 12th. 2012.  On the same stage will also play:  Sleeping Giant, Oh Sleeper, Onward To Olympas, Your Memorial, The Great Commision, A Plea For Purging.  This years festival will be held July 11 -14th.

Sonshine Festival is a Christian music festival held annually in Willmar, Minnesota, usually the second weekend in July. It features Christian musical artists from the United States and around the world. The festival hosts a wide variety of bands and has hosted regional concerts, such as one which centered on bands from Australia including: Paul Colman Trio, Rebecca St. James, and The Newsboys. Decas, the new album from San Diego, California metallers As I Lay Dying, was released on november 8th. 2011, sold 9,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 61 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band’s previous CD, 2010′s The Powerless Rise, opened with 38,000 units to land at No. 10. This was roughly in line with the first-week tally of An Ocean Between Us, which premiered with 39,500 copies back in August 2007.

Decas, which contains 12 tracks, celebrates the band’s accomplishments by offering three brand new songs, cover songs that pay homage to just a few of the bands that have influenced As I Lay Dying, and remixes by Innerpartysystem. [Katy Perry, Lady hawke, Thursday, Good Charlotte and many others], Benjamin Weinman [The Dillinger Escape Plan], Kelly “Carnage” Cairns [Austrian Death Machine, War of Ages], and Big Chocolate [Asking Alexandria, iwrestledabearonce, Suicide Silence]. Megadeth was among the nominees for the 54th annual Grammy Awards, which was held on February 12 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The band’s tenth Grammy nomination was for its new single, Public Enemy No. 1, off Megadeth’s latest album, Th1rt3en, which came out on November 1, 2011. Public Enemy No. 1 actually marked the second Grammy nomination for music from Th1rt3en, as the song Sudden Death was first unveiled in the 2010 video game Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and received a Best Metal Performance nod.

Gigantour — the critically acclaimed package festival founded in 2005 by Megadeth — is making its highly anticipated return for the first time since 2008. The multi-artist bill — with metal heavyweights Motoehead, Volbeat and Lacuna Coil all personally picked by Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine — kicked off on January 26 in Camden, New Jersey. Before wrapping February 28 in Denver, Colorado, the tour will make stops all across the U.S. and Canada, including a February 24 show in Los Angeles.

Final tweaks for the new Driver CD called Countdown going on this week. We also have contributions from singer Mark Boals, bassist Ray Burke, and Daniel Cordova. The CD is coming out great! Vintage style production and killer songs, and Maor Appelbaum mastering, commented Rob Rock.

Driver is a classic heavy rock outfit that was formed in Los Angeles, CA out of the ashes of Joshua and Gypsy Moreno. The band was one of the top local acts at the height of melodic hard rock in the late 1980′s and issued a widely circulated 5-song cassette EP demo in 1990 that garnered the band a dedicated worldwide following. Driver was ultimately denied by major labels with the emergence of the grunge rock scene that dominated the musical landscape during the early 90′s, yet Driver has attained cult status as one of the most underrated hard rock acts of their time, and it has held steadfast throughout the years. Since then, the two main writers and members of Driver, powerhouse vocalist Rob Rock and acclaimed guitarist/producer Roy Z [Bruce Dickinson, Halford, Judas Priest, Sebastian Bach, Rob Rock, Tribe Of Gypsies, Helloween], have forged ahead to garner long successful careers in the music business.

Vocalist Rob Rock first came on the scene via the “M.A.R.S.: Project: Driver” record that was released in 1987 and enjoys international acclaim to this day. Recording with various bands and projects over the years, Rock is currently well known as one of the very few hard rock/metal singers with a successful solo career. Rock has added his writing and vocal talents to many great albums from Impellitteri, Joshua, Warrior, Avantasia, and Axel Rudi Pell, as well as his four solo albums. Dubbed by the press as “The Voice of Melodic Metal”, Rob Rock’s vocal range, phrasing, and unforgettable voice defines the vast variety of songs in the Driver repertoire.

“I put this band together in 2009,” states Welch. “Since then, we’ve experienced some very intense highs and lows. Michael Valentine, Dan Johnson, J.R. Bareis and myself have toured around the world playing a lot of killer shows, but we’ve also had some heart-shattering difficulties along the way. To us, the name Love And Death symbolizes everything we’ve been through as a band over the last few years. We love this band so much and we’ll go through hell to connect with our fans. We’ve proven that to ourselves over and over again.”

With Love And Death, the music now lives under its own banner.

“Many people have confused my speaking dates and our band dates because they were both being booked as Brian ‘Head’ Welch,” saysWelch. “I have wanted to use a band name for branding my music for a few years. It has been an ongoing discussion with my management, but we were just starting to tour and I was in the middle of supporting my third book and it seemed like a bad time to switch names. Now with the new music coming out, it’s time to really separate the things I do. I want the music to be about music. I will still be doing public speaking under Brian ‘Head’ Welch. I am happy that all the confusion will be over.”

Love And Death formed when Welch decided to have open auditions onYouTube in 2009. “I picked the guys and then had a jam session in Phoenix,” says Welch. “Over the last couple of years, there have been a few lineup changes as we went through normal growing pains. The current band has been together and touring for a while now and they are a big part of the new music and the future of Love And Death.”

Love And Death‘s first official music project will be released on April 24. A single, Chemicals, will precede the effort sometime in March, along with an intense semi-animated music video shot by POAB Designs/Martillo Pictures.

The band’s latest single, Paralyzed, is #5 on the BDS rock chart [the single was released under the name Brian Head Welch]. The song was produced by Jason Rauch [RED, Breaking Benjamin] and mixed by Lee Bridges [Third Day, Newsboys].

So when it comes to sports, there’s no surprise which sport he loves: hockey. Hard hits, speed, adrenaline, some real blood — it’s a perfect fit. ”Hockey just never stops,” Cooper said before the Phoenix Coyotes played the Dallas Stars on Saturday night. “It’s like rock ‘n’ roll — it’s relentless.”

Cooper has become known in the sports world for his love of golf, playing in all those celebrity tournaments, whenever he can when he’s not on the road touring. But golf is a relatively recent love. Hockey has a much more deep-rooted hold on him.

A native of Detroit, Cooper grew up with the bruising Red Wings teams of Gordie Howe, Terry Sawchuk, Ted Lindsay in the 1950s and ’60s. When he wasn’t attending their games with his father, Cooper would head out to frozen lakes to play pickup games under the lights.

Even after he became the king of shock rock, Cooper kept up with hockey and has been a fervent and knowledgeable Coyotes fan since the team moved from Winnipeg in 1996.

“You can go see a baseball game, basketball, football, there’s never a game where you jump out of your seat as at a hockey game,” said Cooper, a recent inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “I keep saying the game should be called OOHH! because I do that 20 times a night: go OOHH! It’s by far the most fun sport to watch live.”

We had a Great Mort Gig with Pegazus last night. 70 Payers at the door which was great. So about 100 in all at the show. We performed 5 New songs from Scribe Of The Pentateuch & 5 Old songs including Brutal Warfare, The Destroyer Beholds, Scrolls, Hammer Of God & God Rulz. Brent filmed the show with 2 cameras & we have some other close up footage coming! Should have 3 New Songs & 3 Old Songs up on You Tube in the next weeks as Brent & I sort through the best footage.

Mark McCormack will finish mix of final song for Scribe Of The Pentateuch CD this week. We have then just got to get together & make the final decisions on The Mix. Just bit less, bit more of this & that here & there. EVERYTHING LOUDER THAN EVERYTHING ELSE. HaHa! It is sounding Extremely Brutal & Melodic! It is a step forward for sure from the recent past. Lincoln is The Master Guitarist as always. So Great on stage also!!! He & Andrew have done a stellar job! Great having Mark back Producing for us! Troys Guitars are in the mix with Lincs & with 4 Rhythm & Lead tracks sounds HUGE! I am the happiest I have EVER been with my Bass Sound & Vocals! Learning how to SING has taught me finally after 22 years how to BREATH properly. This has resulted in Deep Brutal Death Vocals, Quality black metal style Vocal parts kinda like Immortal & a little Singing here & there. When I pushed the boundaries with Post Momentary Affliction that really paid dividends! I love Progression & Creating that which has never been created before in Extreme Metal! It has been a long process but the end result in beyond rewarding for all of us involved just putting in the effort to Produce a world class Recording with tunes that have taken a year to develop & refine. The Layout is being put together by Scott Waters of Ultimatum & we are looking at an April 1st release! Praise God! He is good. Teaches us patience & perseverance in the face of adversity.
