My connection with music/metal:
December 1986 was the moment I was drawn into metal-music, when a friend gave me a tape of Stryper’s To Hell With The Devil and Soldiers Under Command. In the years after I literally ‘lived’ to know all about it. Reading articles, reading reviews, visiting concerts, listening almost every christian-metal-album that was released in the years after…

In 1988 I joined the band Fortress as a bass-player. We were kind of a melodic (hard)rock act. We had a lot of fun and played shows with Sculpture, Lucifer’s Nightmare and Seventh Angel along the way (which were much louder than us, but hey… we were young and enjoyed it ). We didn’t officially disband, we just discontinued to exist after the last show in December 1993.

My interest for Christian (metal) music never left me and I decided to become a music-journalist. It resulting in reviewing for Metal Mission Magazine and (after finishing my study journalism) a fulltime-job as editor-in-chief for youth-magazine HebbeZ! Magazine. I did HebbeZ! for 10 years (1997-2007), interviewed hundreds of artists and reviewed close to a 1000 albums.

In 2007 I made the transition to GrootNieuwsRadio, a Christian Radio Station that airs 24/7 on the national frequency of 1008 AM. My primary job is to select the songs (Music Directing), but I also host the daily shows ‘Lunch’ and ‘Classics’.

Metal never left my body… HebbeZ! gave me the opportunity to add metal and hardrock to the pages for more than 10 years. I am happy that Mauce, The Metal Resource, allows me to continue to share my thoughts with the rest of the metal-lovers, -enthousiastics and -critics.
